Anastrozole versus ArimidexEffectiveness

Clinical trials have generally demonstrated that the use of anastrozole may be an effective treatment for breast cancer. However, more research is needed to determine the long-term effectiveness of this strategy in preventing recurrence. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial comparing the effectiveness of Arimidex and Anastrozole in treating hormone receptor positive (HR+) breast cancer, patients with a positive hormone receptor status were randomized to receive either 2 mg anastrozole daily or placebo, every day for 6 months. The primary end point was the rate of breast cancer recurrence.

The primary objective of the study was to compare the rates of breast cancer recurrence and death following treatment with Anastrozole versus Arimidex.

Study Design

This trial included a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with a planned duration of 6 months. The study design is intended to be a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial, in which the primary end point was the risk of recurrence and recurrence-free survival. The study participants were either patients with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer who received Anastrozole or anastrozole and received the same dose of placebo as patients with HR+ breast cancer, who received a combination of Anastrozole and Arimidex as part of their treatment plan.

In addition, the study protocol included a multicentre, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, non-comparative analysis.

Participants were eligible if they were at least 18 years old and had undergone a previous mammogram and had a positive hormone receptor status prior to their enrollment in the study. A baseline assessment was performed before randomization. Participants were required to be at least 18 years old and have a positive hormone receptor status prior to inclusion in the study. Patients were excluded if they had been diagnosed with a primary malignant breast cancer before the study began, had a positive mammogram prior to the study beginning, or had an intact breast. Participants were also excluded if they had received prior radiotherapy and had a history of or had had breast cancer within the last three months. Participants were also excluded if they had a history of ovarian cancer or had a history of breast cancer, had a history of blood clots, or had received hormone therapy prior to the study. The study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and was approved by the College of Physicians and Medical Sciences of the Pittsburgh University.

All study participants signed informed consent forms. The primary study outcomes were the primary end point of the study and the secondary end point of recurrence and death following the completion of the study treatment. The primary end point of the study was the risk of recurrence and recurrence-free survival following completion of the study treatment. The secondary end point of the study was the risk of recurrence and recurrence-free survival following completion of the study treatment.

Participants completed the study treatment and were followed for a minimum of 12 months. After the study treatment, participants were screened for any clinically significant contraindications. An assessment of the benefit and risks of the study treatment was performed to ensure eligibility for the study. If patients did not have a clinical interview with the investigator after completing the study, an additional evaluation of the benefit and risks of the study treatment was performed. If participants reported that they would like to have a second opinion regarding the benefits and risks of the study treatment, an additional evaluation of the benefit and risks of the study treatment was performed.

Study medication was administered via intramuscular injection once a day for 1 week, every day for 6 months. During the study treatment, participants were instructed to perform a breast self-examination every day. Following each dose of study medication, participants completed a question that included their breast size and number.
